By Air

Ithaca Airport

The closest airport is the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport (ITH), which is about 5 miles from the university campus. The airport has flights on small commuter aircraft arriving and departing from Philadelphia (PHL) and New York LaGuardia (LGA) (on USAir) and Detroit (DTW) (on Northwest).

Ground transportation from the airport is available via

Note that there may be at most 1-2 taxis waiting for customers, so it may help to make a reservation in advance. The local bus system (TCAT) also stops at the airport, but not on weekends.

Syracuse Airport

The Syracuse Hancock Airport (SYR) is the largest nearby airport, and is roughly an hour and fifteen minute drive away from campus. The airport is served by many of the major US airlines, including American Airlines, Continental, Delta, JetBlue, Northwest, United, and US Air.

Ground transportation from the airport is available via the shuttle services listed above, and the following rental car agencies:

New York City/Newark Airports

Please note that Ithaca is about a four to five hour drive from New York's LaGuardia and JFK airports, and from the Newark airport in New Jersey. While it is possible to arrange for bus transportation from New York City (see By Bus below), we recommend trying to fly into one of the airports above that is somewhat closer.

By Car

Please see the driving directions on the main Cornell website. Directions to Becker House are below. If you are willing to share a ride to IPCO, please visit our IPCO 2007 rideshare page, especially if you will be attending the Waterloo C&O's 40th Anniversary Celebration.

By Bus

It is possible to travel from New York City to the Cornell campus by bus, but the schedule during the summer is not as regular as during the year. Please be sure to check the schedules well before your desired day of travel.

One option is Cornell's Campus-to-Campus bus, which departs from the Cornell Club near Grand Central Station. These buses are very comfortable, and have plugs and wireless Internet access. The time to Cornell is roughly four hours. The cost is $99 one way, or $149 round trip. Reservations are required.

Another option are the Shortline buses, which leave from a variety of locations around New York City.

By Train

There is an Amtrak station in Syracuse, which is slightly more than an hour away from Ithaca. However, in our experience, Amtrak service is extremely variable and multihour delays are not uncommon. We do not recommend using the train.

By Sharing a Ride

If you are driving to IPCO and have room in your car, or if you need a ride to IPCO, please visit our IPCO 2007 rideshare page, especially if you will be attending the Waterloo C&O's 40th Anniversary Celebration.

From Waterloo C&O's 40th Anniversary Conference

We had considered the idea of running a bus from Waterloo C&O's 40th Anniversary Celebration to IPCO on Sunday, June 24. However, after conducting a number of polls of the level of interest in this bus, there seemed to be insufficient interest to justify the cost. If you need a ride from Waterloo to Cornell, we recommend checking the IPCO 2007 rideshare page to see if you might be able to share a ride with someone.
